Korean Food Around Me

안녕하세요, untuk para pecinta K-Drama, K-Pop ataupun segala sesuatu tentang Korea pasti sudah gak asing lagi sama Korean Food. Nah berikut di bawah ini bakalan dibahas beberapa makanan Korea yang recomended untuk dicoba. Berhubung saya berdomisili di Jakarta maka mohon maaf sebelumnya jika tempat yang direkomendasikan juga terbatas dan berlokasi di Jakarta. T__T

Tapi jangan khawatir untuk yang tinggal di luar Jakarta tetap bisa terhibur membaca tulisan ini kok, karena akan ada beberapa resep makanan Korea dan fakta seputar makanan tersebut.

안녕하세요, K-Drama and K-Pop lover. I bet you are familiar with Korean Food. Today I'm writing some recomended Korean food to try. But the restaurant will be limited in Jakarta-Indonesia only since I lived there.T__T 

But don't worry this post can keep you entertain even you don't lived in Jakarta, because there will be Korean food recipes and facts about the food.

 

1. Jjajangmyeon (짜장면) & Haemul Jjambbong (해물 짬뽕)

Restaurant : Legend Of Noodles beralamat di Jl. Senopati No. 81, Jakarta. Ph: (021) 5210230

Price Range : IDR. 50,000.00 - 100,000.00

Halal : No

Jjajangmyeon (짜장면) with banchan/ side dish

Haemul Jjambbong (해물 짬뽕)

Tang Sooyook (탕수육)

Wang Dongas (왕돈까스) with Kimchi Soup

Naengmyeon (냉면)

Menu paling favorit dari restoran ini adalah Jjajangmyeon (Noodle w/ Black Bean Sauce) dan Haemul Jjambbong (Spicy Seafood Noodle). Tapi selain kedua menu tersebut masih banyak juga menu pilihan lain seperti Tang Sooyook (Sweet & Sour Deep Fried) yang bisa dipilih mau menggunakan daging ayam/babi lalu disiram dengan saus asam manis, Naengmyeon (Cold Noodle) yang rasanya sedikit mirip sama permen nano-nano^^ tapi seger, Wang Dongas (King Cutlet) yang merupakan katsu daging babi lengkap dengan nasi & sup kimchi. Menu disini porsinya lumayan besar-besar jadi bisa di sharing berdua dengan teman kamu. ^^ O iya setiap pemesanan menu makanan disini akan disertai banchan (반찬) dan teh gandum gratis yang bisa direfill.

The most favorite menu of this restaurant is Jjajangmyeon (Noodle w / Black Bean Sauce) and Haemul Jjambbong (Spicy Seafood Noodle).  But besides these two menus there are still many options such as  Tang Sooyook (Sweet & Sour Deep Fried) that you can choose between a chicken / pork meat completed with sweet and sour sauce, Naengmyeon (Cold Noodle) which tastes a bit like nano-nano candy (Indonesian local candy)^ ^ but it taste fresh, Wang dongas (King Cutlet) a pork katsu with rice and kimchi soup. The portion for each menu usually big, so you can share with your friends. ^ ^  And the good news is each order will be accompanied with banchan (반찬) and wheat tea for free (Free flow too)

Nah kalau kalian belum berkesempatan mencoba jjajangmyeon di restoran ini kamu bisa lho coba masak sendiri, nih resepnya :

Well if you haven't  had opportunity to try this restaurant you can try to cook Jjajangmyeon yourself, recipe below :

 

Resep Jajangmyeon:

Bahan-bahan / Ingredients :

600g mie basah atau bisa juga pake spageti instan       600g noodle or spaghetti

100g daging sapi                                                       100g beef

2 buah bawang bombai                                              2 onion

1/2 buah zukini                                                          1/2 pieces of zucchini

2 buah kentang                                                          2 pieces of potato

1 sdm gula pasir                                                        1 tablespoon sugar

4 sdm air sagu                                                           4 tablespoon sago water

2 gelas air                                                                  2 glasses of water

6 sdm minyak                                                            6 tablespoon oil

6 sdm saus Jajangmyeon (Chunjang)                     6 tablespoons Jajangmyeon sauce
(bisa dibeli di supermarket korea seperti Mugunghwa atau K-Mart)

Cara Membuat / How to make  :

- Potong dadu daging dan kentang                                Diced meat and potatoes

- Potong tipis bawang bombai dan zukini                      Cut the onion and zucchini

- Goreng saus Chunjang dengan minyak (kurang lebih 5-6 menit) lalu sisihkan
   Fried Chunjang sauce with oil (about 5-6 minutes) and set aside

- Tumis bawang bombai dengan sedikit minyak goreng   
   Sauté the onion in a little cooking oil

- Masukkan daging, kentang dan zukini                          
   Put the meat, potatoes and zucchini

- Setelah daging & kentang lunak masukkan saus Chunjang yang sudah dimasak sebelumnya
   Once the meat and potatoes are tender enter fried Chunjang sauce

- Aduk sampai merata sambil tuangkan air sagu perlahan-lahan, masak kurang lebih selama 5 menit sisihkan
  Stir until evenly while slowly pour the sago water, cook for about 5 minutes and set aside

- Rebus mie sampai matang (untuk menghindari agar mie menjadi lembek bisa disiram dengan air dingin
untuk menghilangkan panasnya setelah ditiriskan)
  Boil noodles until done (to avoid the noodles become mushy, drained and doused with cold water to remove the heat)

- Taruh mie dalam piring lalu siram dengan saus Chunjang yang sudah matang.

   Put the noodles in a dish and pour with Chunjang sauce

Notes : Biasanya Jajangmyeon paling enak disajikan dengan asinan lobak kuning (bisa dibeli yang sudah jadi di supermaket Korea)
 

Notes: Usually Jajangmyeon will be most delicious if served with yellow pickled radish (available at Korean Supermarket)

2. Pattbingsu (팥빙수)

Cafe asal Korea yang baru buka tahun ini sedang ramai dibicarakan oleh anak-anak muda lho. Selain tempatnya asik untuk nongkrong, interior ruangan yang unik seperti perpustakaan, menu-menu yang ditawarkan juga tidak kalah enak. Menu favorit yang paling sering dicoba adalah bingsu (Es Serut Korea). Satu porsi bingsu cukup besar bisa untuk 2 orang. Dan rasanya pun bermacam-macam, ada Patbingsu  (Red Bean bingsu), Green Tea bingsu, Strawberry bingsu & Coffee bingsu. Dari ke empat rasa itu saya paling suka green tea atau coffee.

This Korean cafe opened this year and already famous within young peoples. The place is very cool for hang out, unique interior with library design and the menus offered are also tasty. Most favourite menus that often people try is bingsu (Korean shaved ice). One portion of bingsu is big enough for 2 people to enjoy. And the flavour also vary, there Patbingsu (Red Bean bingsu), Green Tea bingsu, Strawberry bingsu & Coffee bingsu. Among these flavour I like green tea and coffee flavour.

3. Tteokbokki (떡볶이), Gimbap (김밥) & Rabokki (라볶이)

Odeng (오뎅)

Patbingsu (팥밍수)

Restoran berada di lantai satu dari supermaket. Kamu juga bisa cari bahan-bahan makanan Korea, snack, ice cream ,mie instan, kue-kue tradisional sampai permainan tradisional Korea disini.
Di lantai 2 supermaket ini juga terdapat toko roti kecil yang menyediakan roti dan patbingsu. Harga patbingsu disini lebih murah dibandingkan dengan cafee bene. Dan kalau dilihat sepertinya tidak jauh berbeda dengan es kacang merah di Indonesia kecuali ditambahkan buah dan mochi
Seperti kebanyakan restoran Korea, setiap pemesanan menu makanan disini juga diberi gratis banchan (반찬) dan minum . ^^
Restaurant is located on the first floor of supermarket. You can also find Korean food ingredients, snacks, ice cream, instant noodles, traditional cake and traditional Korean game here.
On the 2nd floor there is also a small bakery that sell bread and patbingsu. Patbingsu prices here are cheaper compared to cafee bene. And it doesn't seem to be different with red bean ice in Indonesia unless it add fruits and mochi as the additional topping. Like most Korean restaurants, each main menu here was also given a complimentary banchan (반찬) and drink. ^ ^

Resep Tteokbokki

Bahan-bahan yang di perlukan adalah / Ingredients  : (semua bahan tersedia di supermaket Korea seperti Mugunghwa dan K-Mart)

350 g Tteok putih bulat panjang                 350g white Tteok

Odeng/fish cake (secukupnya)                   Odeng / fish cake

1 buah Bawang bombay                            1 onion

1/2 buah Bawang putih                             1/2 garlic

1 buah Daun bawang                               1 green onion

5 sdm Gochujang (dalam bentuk pasta)    5 tablespoon Gochujang (paste)

1 sdm Gochukaro (bubuk cabai Korea)   1 tablespoon Gochukaro (Korean chili powder)

3 - 5 sdm Minyak wijen                          3-5 tablespoon sesame oil

Garam & Gula pasir                                Salt & Sugar

Air secukupnya                                       Water

Cara membuat/ How to make  :

- Cincang Bawang bombay dan  bawang putih, tumis dengan minyak wijen sampai harum

  Chopped Onions and garlic, saute until fragrant with sesame oil 

- Masukkan air secukupnya, tunggu mendidih baru masukkan tteok dan odeng (tteok harus terendam oleh air ya)

 Add enough water, wait until boil and enter tteok and odeng (tteok must be completely submerged by water)

- Setelah 1-2 menit masukkan gochukaro/ gochujang (boleh di mix sesuai selera), garam dan gula pasir  secukupnya.

 After 1-2 minutes enter gochukaro / gochujang (you can mix it as per your taste), enough salt and sugar.

- Aduk-aduk sampai air mengental, masukan daun bawang dan tumis sebentar.

 Stir until water thickened, put the green onion and saute briefly.
- Hidangkan selagi panas

 Serve while hot

Notes : Gochukaro itu berbeda dengan bubuk cabai Indonesia ya, kamu bisa cari gochukaro di supermarket Korea.

Kalau mau memasak rabokki, tinggal masukkan bumbu mie instan bersama dengan gochukaro/ gochujang. Mie dimasukkan setelah semua bahan tercampur dan air sedikit mengental. Bisa juga ditambahkan telur rebus sesuai selera. 

Notes: Gochukaro is different from Indonesian chili powder, you can find it in Korean  supermarket.
If you want to cook rabokki, just enter the instant noodle along with gochukaro / gochujang. Insert noodle after all the ingredients mixed and the water slightly thickened. You can also add  boiled eggs.

Korean Proverbs And Expressions

안녕하세요 친구들, masih dalam rangka menyebarkan virus demam Korea, kali ini saya mau memperkenalkan peribahasa dan ungkapan ekspresi yang biasa digunakan oleh masyarakat Korea baik orang-orang tua maupun muda.

안녕하세요 친구들, still on spreading Korean Fever event, this time I want to introduce you with Korean Proverb & Expressions that usually used by Korean people.

Kalian tentunya pernah belajar mengenai peribahasa dan ungkapan ekspresi dalam bahasa Indonesia waktu disekolah dulu. Nah ternyata ada beberapa kesamaan lho antara peribahasa Korea dan Indonesia, salah satunya yaitu hewan-hewan seperti macan, monyet dan anjing seringkali digunakan dalam peribahasa kedua negara tersebut. Selain itu ada juga peribahasa Korea yang dilatar belakangi oleh cerita rakyat yang mirip seperti cerita Jaka Tarub di Indonesia. Menarik kan? Nah dibawah ini kamu bisa baca beberapa contoh peribahasa dan ungkapan ekspresi dalam bahasa Korea :

If you're Indonesian, you already learned about Indonesian proverb at school. Well there is a similiarity between Korean and Indonesian proverb. One of  them is that both proverb often use animal like tiger, monkey or dog on their proverb. Beside that there's one Korean Proverb that had similiar background with Jaka Tarub folktale from Indonesia. Interesting right ? Let's start digging. Below you can read some of Korean Proverb & expressions :

남의 떡이 커보인다 (Namui tteoki keoboinda)

Kue beras milik orang lain selalu terlihat lebih besar

Arti : Apa yang dimiliki oleh orang lain biasanya terlihat lebih baik dari yang kita miliki.

The other man's rice cake always looks bigger

Mean : What is owned by another person usually looks better than we have.

서울에서 김서방 찾기 (Seoul eso kimseobang chatgi)

Seperti mencari Mr. Kim di Seoul.

Arti : Melakukan pekerjaan yang sulit. Seperti jarum di tumpukan jerami. Karena kurang lebih sekitar 20% dari penduduk Korea memiliki nama keluarga yang sama yaitu Kim.

That's like looking for a Mr. Kim in Seoul

Mean : Doing a difficult job. It's like a needle in a hay stack. Because twenty percent of South Korea's  people have the same surname, Kim.

작은 고추가 맵다 (Jakeun gochuga maepda)

Cabe/lada ukuran kecil lebih pedas

Arti : Biarpun kecil tapi berani, orang Korea berpikir bahwa orang pendek biasanya mempunyai sifat berani. Jika ada yang membuat lelucon tentang perawakan kecil orang Korea, orang tersebut mungkin akan berkata : "Aku akan tunjukkan bahwa cabe kecil lebih pedas"

Small pepper is hotter

Mean : Korean think short people are gritty. If you make fun of  a Korean man's diminutive stature, he might fuming : " I will show you that a small pepper is hotter"

호랑이는 죽으면 가죽을 남기고 사람은 죽으면 이름을 남긴다 (Horanginen jukeumyeon gajukeul namgigo sarameun jukeumyeon ireumeul namginda)

Pada saat macan mati akan meninggalkan bulu dan pada saat manusia mati akan meninggalkan namanya

Arti : Seorang manusia harus membangun reputasi yang baik.

When a tiger dies, it leaves its fur and when a man dies, he leaves his name

Mean : A man must build a good reputation.

국수 언제 먹지? (Guksu eonje mokji?)

Kapan saya dapat kesempatan makan mie ?

Arti : Kapan anda akan menikah ? Mie digunakan dalam ekspresi ini karena mie merupakan hidangan yang biasanya disajikan dalam acara pernikahan. Mie merupakan lambang dari umur panjang.

When will I have a chance to eat your noodles ?

Mean : When are you getting married ? Because noodles are a common dish at wedding banquets. Long noodles symbolise longevity.

물먹었다! (Mul mokottda!)

Saya makan air!

Arti  : Aku kalah. Biasanya dikatakan oleh karyawan kantor setelah kehilangan promosi.

I ate water!

Mean : I lost out. Usually an office worker says this after missing a promotion.

식은죽 먹기 (Sikeunjuk mokgi)

Seperti menyeruput bubur dingin.

Arti : Melakukan sesuatu hal yang mudah.

It's like slurping cold porridge. 

Mean : It's a piece of cake.

하늘이 무너져도 솟아날 구멍은 있다 (Haneuli muneojyeodo sotanal gumeongeun ittda)

Walaupun langit runtuh, masih ada lubang untuk melarikan diri.

Arti :  Selalu ada solusi walau seburuk apapun sebuah masalah

Even the sky falls down, there is a hole to escape.

Mean : There's always a solution, however bad things look.

말에 뼈가 있다 (Male ppyeoga ittda)

Perkataannya memiliki tulang.

Arti : Komentar orang tersebut memiliki arti tersembunyi atau kritik

His words have bones.

Mean : His comments harbor hidden meaning or criticism

옷이 날개다 (Otyi nalgaeda)

Pakaian adalah sayap anda.

Arti : Masyarakat menilai anda dari apa yang anda kenakan.

Dalam cerita rakyat, ada seorang penebang pohon menyelamatkan rusa yang dikejar oleh pemburu. Rusa yang bersyukur kepada si penebang pohon mengatakan bahwa ada sekelompok bidadari yang akan mandi di kolam rahasia setiap bulan purnama dan bahwa ia harus mencuri pakaian dari salah satu bidadari. Si penebang pohon melakukannya. Setelah mandi, semua bidadari terbang kembali ke surga namun ada satu bidadari tertinggal tanpa pakaian, yang berfungsi sebagai sayap. Si penebang pohon menawarkan sang bidadari untuk tinggal di rumahnya dan tak lama kemudian mereka menikah. Rusa telah berpesan kepada si penebang pohon bahwa ia tidak boleh memberitahu sang bidadari tentang pencurian tersebut sampai ia melahirkan tiga anak. Namun setelah mempunyai dua anak, si penebang pohon berpikir bahwa "Tidak ada wanita yang akan tega meninggalkan suami dan anaknya"
Suatu malam si penebang pohon mengatakan kepada istrinya tentang rusa dan pakaiannya. Sang istri memohon untuk mengenakan pakaian lamanya untuk terakhir kali. Dan si penebang pohon mengizinkan. Namun tak lama setelah dikenakan, sang bidadari terbang kembali ke surga dengan anak di setiap lengannya.
Clothes are your wings

Mean : People judge you by what you wear. 

In a folk tale, a logger saved a deer chased by hunters. The grateful deer told the logger that a group of nymphs would bathe in a secret pond by the light of the full moon and that he should steal the clothes of one. The logger did so. After bathing, all the nymphs flew back to heaven save the one without clothes, which served as wings. The logger offered to take her back to his house, and they soon got married. The deer had told the logger that he should never tell the nymph about the theft until she had given birth to three children. But after two children the man thought that "No woman would leave her husband and children".

One night the logger told his wife about the deer and her clothes. The wife begged to wear her old dress for the last time and the logger let her do so. After she wear the clothes, she flew back to heaven with a child under each arm.

뱃속에 거지가 들어앉았나? (Baesoke geojiga deuleoanjana?)

Apakah seorang pengemis jongkok di perutmu ?

Arti : Anda makan terlalu banyak, terlalu cepat. Biasanya seorang ibu akan mengatakan ini kepada anaknya yang makan banyak namun tetap kurus seperti belalang.

Is a beggar squatting in your stomach?

Mean : You eat too much, too quickly. Usually mother say this to kids who eat voraciously but remain as thin as grasshoppers

서당개 삼년에 풍월 읊는다 (Seodanggae samnyeone pungweol eupneunda)

Setelah tiga tahun, bahkan anjing yang bersekolah akan bisa membacakan beberapa puisi.

Arti : Jika anda bertahan cukup lama, anda akan belajar sesuatu. Tidak peduli seberapa malas atau tidak kompetennya anda. Peribahasa ini sebenarnya menertawakan seseorang yang mencurahkan banyak upaya untuk belajar keterampilan dasar, tapi masih tidak bisa melakukannya.

Ada versi modern dari peribahasa ini lho : Setelah tiga tahun di Itaewon, anjing bisa menyanyikan beberapa lagu pop Amerika (karena di Itaewon terdapat Markas Besar Angkatan Darat Amerika)

After three years, even the school dog can recite a few poems

Mean : If you hang around long enough, you will learn something no matter how lazy or incompetent you are.

The expression oftem ridicules someone who devotes a lot of effort to learning basic skills but still can't perform.

A modern version of this proverbs : After three years in Itaewon, a dog can sing a few American pop songs

(because there's American Army Headquarters in Itaewon)

 까마귀 고기 먹었나? (Kkamagwi gogi mokottna?)

Apakah kamu makan daging burung gagak?

Arti : Apakah kamu tidak bisa mengingat apapun?

Asal usul ekspresi ini terletak pada sebuah dongeng. Suatu hari Raja dari neraka memerintahkan utusannya, burung gagak, untuk menyampaikan surat kepada letnan yang menggiring manusia ke neraka. Saat terbang burung gagak melihat ada kuda mati yang membusuk. Burung gagak ini mengitari bangkai kuda dan bimbang antara tugasnya sebagai utusan dan godaan untuk makan. Gagakpun menyerah dan memakan bangkai tersebut. Ketika dia kembali sadar, ia menemukan bahwa surat itu hilang tersapu oleh angin. Karena takut akan hukuman, gagak berkata kepada letnan bahwa Raja menugaskan mengawal manusia sebanyak mungkin ke neraka. Desa diisi oleh ratapan karena manusia tak berdosa meninggal secara misterius dan digiring ke neraka. Manusia akhirnya membenci burung gagak sejak saat itu dan menetapkan burung gagak sebagai burung pelupa dan pertanda kematian.

Did you eat crow meat?

Mean : Can't you remember anything?

The origin of this proverbs lies in a fable. The king of the underworld ordered his emissary, the crow, to deliver a letter to the lieutenants who shepherded humans into the depths. As it flew, the crow saw a dead decaying horse. It circled over the carrion, torn between its duty as messenger and the temptation of a feast. The crow succumbed and eat the dead horse. When it came to its senses, it discovered that the letter was gone, swept away by the wind. Fearing punishment, the flustered bird told the king's lieutenants that they were supposed to escort as many people as possible to hell. Wailing filled villages as the innocent died mysteriously and were herded into the underworld. Humans have loathed the crow ever since and branding it a forgetful bird and an augury of death.

Nah beberapa peribahasa dan ekspresi di atas biasanya digunakan oleh orang-orang tua di Korea. Sedangkan orang-orang muda jarang menggunakannya, tapi ada juga lho beberapa ekspresi yang memang hanya digunakan oleh orang-orang muda. Di bawah ini contohnya :

Some proverbs and expressions above usually used by Korean elder. While young people rarely use it, but there are also some expressions that are only used by young people. Below is an example :

내가 쏜다 (Naega ssonda)

Aku akan menembak (traktir)
Arti : Ekspresi ini biasa digunakan untuk mengatakan mari kita pergi keluar dan pesta, makanan dan minuman saya yang traktir. Kata ini populer di kalangan pekerja kantor muda. Implikasinya adalah bahwa uang akan keluar dari dompet pembicara seperti peluru.

I will shoot.

Mean : Let's go out and party, food and drinks are on me.  A term popular among young office workers. The implication is that money will fly out the speaker's wallet like bullets.

죽인다! (Jukinda!)

Ini membunuh saya

Arti : Orang Korea yang mengatakan ini tidak mengacu pada pembunuhan atau kasus keracunan makanan. Justru sebaliknya, ekspresi ini menjelaskan sesuatu hal yang baik, absurd, lucu, menarik atau luar biasa.
Biasanya seseorang yang menikmati makanan yang sangat lezat akan berkata : Ini membunuh saya! Apa resepnya ?

It kills me!

Mean : Koreans who says this are not referring to homicide or a case of food poisoning. Quite the contrary ,this expressions describes the good things, absurd, funny, interesting or exceptional.

People who eat very delicious meal usually say : It kills me! What are the ingredients?

Nah bagaimana, menarik bukan mempelajari tentang peribahasa dan ekspresi masyarakat Korea ? 

Kalian juga pasti bisa melihat ada beberapa kemiripan peribahasa di atas dengan peribahasa Indonesia dan  cerita rakyat Jaka Tarub versi Korea. ^^

Wow Supporter Korea & Korean Culture Fair 2013 Jakarta

안녕하세요, Sepertinya sudah lama banget gak update blog sejak post terakhir bulan lalu. Hm, apa boleh buat lagi banyak tugas dari kantor dan juga kelas bahasa.T_T 

Tapi saya berniat untuk giat dan rajin kembali menulis blog.^^ Soalnya sudah ada beberapa materi dan foto-foto menggunung di smartphone yang menyerukan memory full. Hehehe

Jadi musti menyempatkan diri nih, mengasah kembali aktivitas blogging dan sekaligus menyebarkan sebuah virus ke pembaca blog yaitu virus Demam Korea. Apalagi kemarin terpilih jadi salah satu peserta Wow Korea Supporters. Buat yang follow/ like pagenya Korea Tourism Organization (Indonesia) pasti gak asing lagi dengan event tersebut. Tapi buat yang belum tahu bisa baca di bawah ya..

안녕하세요, I think it's been a while since my last post. Hm, what can I do, there's so much task to do at my office and language class.T_T 

But I'm intend to encourage myself again to writing my blog.^^ Actually I already have some material and photos on my smartphone that shouting memory are full. Hehehe

So I will start writing my blog again and spread one virus called Korean Fever. Because I'm choosen as one of the participants Wow Korea Supporters. I think you were familiar with the event  if you follow/ like Korea Tourism Organization (Indonesia)  page. But if you weren't you can read below..

Jadi intinya mulai sekarang saya akan menyebarkan virus Demam Korea melalui blog ini ke seluruh pelosok negeri saya tercinta Indonesia. ^^ Supaya semakin banyak orang yang tahu dan mengenal budaya/ pariwisata dari negeri ginseng "Korea",si negara yang juga sudah menjalin hubungan diplomatik dengan negara Indonesia selama 40 tahun.

Jadi hati-hati dan siapin obat anti demam ya,^^ hehehe. 

Oh iya masih dalam rangka memperingati hubungan diplomatik tersebut diadakan sebuah event Korea Culture Fair 2013 di Lotte Shopping Avenue (LOVE) Jakarta. Di event tersebut akan ada cover dance, movie festival, talk show, cooking competition, Hanbok photo corner dan banyak lagi. Untuk rundown acara bisa di download di bawah ini ya

 

So basically starting from now I will spread Korean Fever virus all around my country Indonesia.^^ Therefore peoples will get to know more about Korean, the country that has established diplomatic relations with the Indonesia for 40 years..

So be carefull and prepare your medicine, ^^hehehe

And for celebrating the diplomatic relations there's an event called Korea Culture Fair 2013 at Lotte Shopping Avenue (LOVE) Jakarta. THIS IS KOREA (Book Review)

안녕하세요 친구들. 저는 지난주에 한 책을 읽었어요. (Hello friends. Last week I've read a book.)

I want to review this book and recomendate it to you who's looking a book to be read on weekend. Especially if you are a foreigner that intend to stay in Korea or just want to know more about this beautiful country.

The writers of this book are CHOI Jung-wha and LIM Hyang-ok (Language : English). 

I won't review all part of the book, only some part that I thought very interesting and will make you want to read this book yourself. ^^ㅋㅋㅋ

This book explain basic information about Korea (location of the country, the language, national anthem etc).  But did you know how was Korea created ? 

As with many other countries, Korea also has a legend about its creation.  

The story goes that the heavens were ruled by King Hwanin (환인) who had a son named  Hwanung (환웅). The son asked his father for permission to go down to earth so that he could help humans. His wish was granted and he was sent down to the most important land, what is now known as Korea. One day, a tiger and bear came to him, request him to make them humans. He telling them that it required enourmous patience. Finally, he told them to eat 20 cloves of garlic and mugwort he would give them and to enter a cave and pray to the gods. They ate the garlic and mugwort and prayed to the gods. After a few days, however, the tiger was unable to bear his hunger pains and fled from the cave. The bear, however, patiently withstood the hardships and after 100 days was transformed into a beautiful woman.  Hwanung named her Ungnyeo (웅녀) and married her. They had a son, Dangun (단군), the first ancestor of the Korean people. Dangun then founded the land know as Ancient Joseon.

This book also explain Korea Major Holiday such as Lunar New Year's Day/ Seollal (설날) and Korean Thanksgiving/ Chuseok (추석) completed with an explanation of what usually a Korean family do on such occassion.

As many of you already know that Korea had a different way from Western people to counting someone age, the reason for this is because Korean people count the nine months you were in your mother's womb.

We can learned how to counting our age in Korean way from this book, below is the formula :

If you've already celebrated your birthday => You only add one year to your birthday.

If not => You must add two years to your birthday.

For example : I'm born on November 27, 1985. I haven't celebrated my birthday this year, so my Korean age is 29 (add 2 years from my western age). My western age is 27 and when I celebrated my birthday on November 2013 my western age will be 28. If someone asked me how old I am in Korean on November I will add only 1 year which is 29.

So if you were in Korean and someone asked how old are you, it is not unusual to answer twice, you can say "My Korean age is 29 but my man (만) age is 27".

So how  about the Korean Zodiac ?

Korean Zodiac is similiar with Chinese Zodiac, below is the picture of twelve Korean zodiac. (This book also explain a people characteristic based on their zodiac, your best zodiac mate that match with you, etc)

Some Facts about Korean People according to the book:

- Usually when we first meet with Korean people, they will ask you how old are you. 

The reason is because in Korea being senior or junior to someone has a special meaning. Unlike western, the relationship in Korea tend to be vertical. Because of this vertical relationship in Korea you will call someone by their title (teacher, director, manager etc). And if they don't have a formal title, you can use ajumma (아줌마) means aunt for older woman or ajeossi (아저씨) means uncle for older man. You can see that we call someone family (aunt/uncle) eventhough they completely stranger, this is show us a glance about Korean culture.

However, nowadays ajumma and ajeossi have a slightly pejorative connotation and therefore are used for cleaning ladies, concierges or taxi drivers. Instead, you can use eonni (언니) - used by a girl to an older girl or nuna (누나) - used by a boy to an older girl, oppa (오빠) - used by a girl to an older boy, and hyeong (형)- used by a boy to an older boy.

- Korean people when meet their colleague usually greet them with a question " Have you eaten?" 
There's a several reason behind this question, one reason is that Korean people suffered a lot from hunger during the Korean War. So these memories still haunt their subconscious.

- Korean don't feel that they have finished their meal unless they have a bowl of rice.

Some Proper Manner in General & Table Manner according to the book  :

- Bow to someone you are being introduced to.

- Bow to the person you want to greet or thank.

- Don't drink in front of a higher-status person. If you must, turn your head to one side as a sign of respect.

- When dining with elders, wait until they start using their utensils and eating first before lifting yours.

- Don't lift your rice or soup bowl.

- When using your chopsticks, place the spoon on the table.

There's still many interesting things about this book that you must read it yourself, such as Korean Food, Korean Traditional Games etc. I borrowed this book from Korean Cultural Center Indonesia library. So if you lived at Jakarta, you can visit KCCI to borrowed the book.

Korean Language Class Experience at KCCI

안녕, 오랜만이지요?
This time I want to share my experience from learning Korean Language at Korean Cultural Center Indonesia (KCCI). Right now I'm attending Basic 3, there's seven level at KCCI : Basic 1, Basic 2, Basic 3, Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2, Intermediate 3 and Advance 1. Each level took 12 weeks and 4 hour each week.
There's also an option class to learn Korean Language such as Conversation Class, Song Class & Movie Class.

I like learning Korean Language, indeed sometimes the language can be difficult but the fun part is above those difficulties.

I've got a new friends at KCCI and we usually share stories about our liking towards Korean Culture, K-Drama or K-Pop.

I don't know why but I always get Se Jong room since Basic 1 until now. Other student sometimes got a different room each level. The view from this room is the best. ^^

한국 음식 (aka. Korean Food)

Sometimes we also go out and eat Korean Food together. My favourite Korean Food so far is 떡볶이 (spicy rice cake) and 삼계탕 (chicken with ginseng soup)

We also go out to eat dinner together after we finished Basic 1. We ate 찜닭 (Steamed Chicken) and drink 소주 (Soju)*  선생님은 저녁 식사를 주셔서 감사합니다.
*Only adult people who can drink this and yeay I'm an adult. ㅋㅋㅋ

Eru (이루) Live Concert in Jakarta w/ KCCI friends ^^

Last month, together with my class friend we got a chance to watch Eru live in concert from KCCI. Actually I never heard Eru song before the concert. But I must say that he is a great singer after this day & I really enjoyed his performance that night.
Besides Eru there's also a guest star : Ailee, Bae chigi & Shorry J (Mighty Mouth). Eru also sing popular K-Pop song such as Fantastic Baby (Big Bang), I Am the Best (2NE1), Put Your Hands Up (2PM), Gangnam Style (PSY) and many more. 콘서트에 진짜 재미있었어요 ...

I also got a chance to photos with Pororo, my favourite cartoon.ㅋㅋㅋ Actually that day is my bad face day, not wearing any make up & not intended to be in any picture. But who can resist take a picture with Pororo. And there you go a picture that I got after compete with other kids (really a 3 - 6 year kids). Shame on me T_T
Actually I want to post my picture with my classmate friends too, but I haven't ask their permission. So I will save the pictures for my next post.  ^^ 기다려주세요
